Bankya was a village until 1969, when it was named a town. It happens to be one of the most popular relaxation spots near Sofia.
The town is situated only 15 km away from Sofia. Both buses and trains travel from Sofia to Bankya on a regular basis. Bankya is situated in the foot of Lyulin Mountain, which gives the town green and pleasantly calm atmosphere.
