The eastern wine production region includes the land in the Black Sea coastal region and Dobroudzha. Weather there is fair and suitable mainly for the production of white wine grapes. The most popular types include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rkatsitelli, Traminer, Aligote and Riesling. Some of the smaller inside regions favor red wine production. The grape types grown include Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the wineries there are situated in Varna, Pomorie, Bourgas, Turgovishte, Shoumen, Han Kroum and Preslav.
Slunchev Zamuk Winery is situated in the Shoumen region village of Dragoevo. It is relatively young and functions since 1972. In 2001, the winery was privatized. It produces mainly Chardonnay, Traminer, Rkatsitelli, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines.
Sluncheva Dolina Winery is also young. It was created in 1998 and specialized in wine bottling. The winery works mainly with Slunchev Zamuk but also developed its own brands like the Sun Valley wines. Its production includes Sauvignon Blanc, Rkatsitelli, Chardonnay, Traminer, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Evksinograd Wine Cellar was named after a region near Varna. This is the oldest cellar in the country, created back in 1981 to take care of the royal needs for wine. The cellar underwent several renovations. Today, the cellar has been connected to the needs of the Council of Ministers. It produces quality white wines.
Osmar Wine Cellar carries the name of the village where it is situated. The cellar has specialized in the production of wormwood wine. It also makes Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines. It offers excellent wine tasting opportunities.
Strandzha – Chateau Rosenovo Winery is situated in the Bourgas region village of Rosenovo. It has small capacity and has specialized in the production of quality red wines. The winery makes use of stainless still dishes only. The main types of wine used in the production include Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Chardonnay is also used but in smaller quantities.
Han Kroum Winery was created in 1939 and produces much less wine than it used to. The winery was created in 1939. It processes white wine grapes but produces both red and white wines. Traminer Han Kroum is one of the wine brands that impress with their quality. Han Kroum winery also produces quality Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay wines.
Vinex Preslav used to be one of the biggest wine producers in the country. Today, it is known for its quality wines made of Traminer, Chardonnay, Rkatsitelli, Riesling and Cabernet.
Vinkom Bourgas was created in 1947. The winery has a cellar in the nearby town of Aitos. Its capacity is rather big and production includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Rieslign, Aligote, Rkatsitelli, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines. In the past, the cellar was famous for its South Coast Rose and South Coast Chardonnay.
Vinprom Alvina is situated in the town of Dobrich. It was created in 1947 and underwent expansion in the 60s. The winery makes wide selection of white wines. Some of the products carry the brand Alvina, while others are sold under the names Mecha Kruv, Sofia and Manastirska Izba.
Vladimir Distillers – Silistra is a wine cellar constructed in 1947 and privatized in the 90s of the 20th century. It owns additional facilities in Toutrakan. The region favors the production of white wine grape types. Vladimir Distillers has specialized in the production of Rkatsitelli, Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines. One of its best wines is Dobrotitsa Crown – Riesling and Muscat.
Dimiat – Varna is one of the wineries in Bulgaria that has inherited the traditions of old cellars. The old part of the winery was constructed in the end of the 19th century and is situated in the central part of Varna. The cellar acts as a tourism attraction. Dimiat – Varna produces mainly high quality white wines of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Riesling.
Domain Boyar Shoumen is the successor of Vinprom Shoumen. It was renovated in the 90s. The region near Shoumen is suitable for the production of white wines from grapes like Traminer, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat. It is worth trying Chardonnay Royal Selection 2003, Traminer Royal Selection 2003 and Shoumen Muscat.
LVK-Vinprom Ltd Turgovishte is one of the biggest wine producers in the country. The cellar was created in 1947 and has additional facilities in Popovo and Omourtag. In the past, the winery produced one of the most popular white wines in the country, Magareshko Mliako. Both red and white wines are made there but the white wine production is of higher quality.
Pomoriiski Vinprom Chernomorsko Zlato is one of the leaders in the country. It has three facilities in Nessebar and additional cellars in the villages of Kableshkovo and Bata. Weather conditions favor white wine production.
