Panichishte is a tiny resort situated in the southwestern part of Rila Mountain. It is 25 km away from the town of Doupnitsa and at the distance of 10 km from Sapareva Banya.

The name of the resort comes from the way the lowest one of the Seven Rila Lakes is called. The lake on the other hand, carries the name because of its dish-like shape.

What makes the resort a fascinating place is the tourism options that the region offers. The resort has two ski tracks, most suitable for beginners and a 5 km ski run path.

Panichishte also offers the option for skiing over unprocessed snow, practice that has gained popularity recently.

The proximity to Sapareva Banya, well known for its mineral springs, gives tourists the chance to combine skiing with spa treatment. The Sapareva Banya mineral springs happen to be the hottest ones in Bulgaria.

Apart from winter sports and spa procedures, the region enables mountain walks. One of the best known Rila routes starts from the village. It takes tourists to the Seven Rila Lakes, the Rila Monastery, Pionerska cabin, Skakvitsa cabin and the Skakavishki waterfall.

Panichishte also offers view of Vitosha Mountain. The proximity to Sofia makes the place suitable for a weekend walk from the capital. Traveling to Panichishte takes no more than an hour and a half.

According to investment plans, the region close to the resort will turn into modern winter sports center in the coming years. A lift will take tourists to Sapareva Banya. These developments will also increase the accommodation opportunities and will turn Panichishte into a modern resort, comparable to Borovets and Bansko.

Bulgaria’s royal family also had its residence in Borovets. Tsarska Bistritsa is still there today.

The town of Samokov, birthplace of one of Bulgaria’s most famous icon painting and art schools is also in this mountain region. Govedarsti, a small village in the mountain, has also gained popularity as a vacation spot. The resort of Maliovitsa, located underneath the peak under the same name, attracts tourists as well.

When talking about Rila, the first thing that comes to mind is the Rila monastery.

The northwestern part of the mountain houses the small resort of Panichishte. The tiny place is bound to turn into a major winter resort, since experts assess the slopes as ideal for the positioning of ski tracks and winter sports facilities.

If you want to explore Rila closely, have in mind that the majority of hiking and alpine sports lovers prefer this mountain. The hiking routes start from several points, among which Maliovitsa and the resort of Borovets.

An experienced guide can take you in several hours to Mousala peak, the Seven Rila Lakes or the Rila monastery. Rila has a big number of mountain cabins and shelters that offer rest.

During the winter, the mountain can turn into a dangerous place. Some of the higher slopes, often witness avalanches, which on occasions cause the death of climbers and tourists. close
