Maliovitsa, the Seven Rila Lakes, Skakavitsa waterfall come to mind first, when you think about trekking in Rila Mountain. Many routes start from Skakavitsa hut and the walk to the waterfall from this starting point is relatively short.
The region near the Rila monastery also offers suitable trekking conditions. Some paths start from Bodrost resort, situated in the southwestern part of Rila at an altitude of 1300 m. From there, you can reach Parangalitsa preserve and Dobursko and Semkovo huts.
Parangalitsa is one of Bulgaria’s most beautiful protected areas. It protects spruce forests and has been included in UNESCO’s Biosphere Reserves Directory.
If you decide to go trekking during the winter, hire a guide. According to some agencies, the must-do treks in Rila are six.
