One of the most preferred eco and rural tourism destinations in Bulgaria is situated 25 km away from the town of Troyan and 200 km away from Sofia.
Apriltsi is a town situated in a beautiful valley that is surrounded by Stara Planina Mountain from all sides. The town offers breathtaking view of Severen Dzhendem preserve and of Botev peak.
The first settlers in the region escaped from Turnovo upon the Ottoman conquest. In 1976, four villages situated there were named Apriltsi and were given the status of a town.
Numerous small hotels function in Apriltsi alongside cafés and restaurant. The resort town has several swimming pools, a horseback riding ground, as well as biking and tennis facilities. Rivers in the region offer fishing and sunbathing conditions.
Apriltsi is the starting point of seven eco paths. All of them are well-marked but feature varying levels of difficulty.
Severen Dzhendem preserve is situated nearby. It features virgin nature and century-old forests.
One of the biggest Apriltsi landmarks is the 34-m high cross. It was positioned to commemorate 130 years since the April Uprising and 30 years since Apriltsi was named a town.
St. Petka Paraskeva church was constructed in 1814. It is nearly dug into the ground and features separate sections for men and women. The church was partially renovated in 1845 but suffered damage during an earthquake in 1930. Unfortunately, the church is not maintained well and some of the icons are missing.
Another church was constructed in Apriltsi in 1896. St. Georgi Pobedonosets honors the act of all people who fought in the April Uprising.
