Though it sounds incredible, birdwatching is possible even in a noisy and big city like Sofia. One place that will let you get closer to nature is the South Park. Nearly 65 types of birds can be seen there, 29 of which endangered.
The park is situated near Vitosha Mountain, which explains the diversity of species.
South Park is also part of the migration route Via Aristotelis, following the valley of Strouma River. Artificial lakes bring to the park many birds and the park trees attract woodpeckers.
This diversity is suitable for longer walks during the weekend. Take a walk away from the noisy streets and get acquainted with nature. South Park is suitable for inexperienced birdwatchers, who would like to try more distant observation routes the next time.
