One of the places that offer excellent birdwatching conditions is the Black Sea coastal area near the city of Bourgas. The Atanasovsko, Mandrensko, Bourgasko and Pomoriisko lakes, as well as the coastal region nearby are suitable for this activity.
The region of Poda features one of the most popular birdwatching spots. A watching tower has been constructed so that visitors can observe, without disturbing birds. The Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) set up the facility.
Nearly 230 types of birds can be observed in the area. Some of the species are endangered.
Ropotamo preserve and Alepou, situated in the south, also offer such conditions. The boat pier near Ropotamo River is the best observation spot. Yet, each spot near the river offers good birdwatching conditions.
Kitenska and Diavolska Rivers are the place where seagulls, storks and buzzards nest.
Other bird types can be observed in the region of Veleka River near Sinemorets. Depending on the season, visitors can see herons, storks, hawks, titmouses, woodpeckers, eagles and buzzards.
Kaliakra cape in the north is the place where migrating birds pass. Nearly 40 types of birds can be observed there.
Two humid areas, Bolata and Taukliman, are situated north of the cape. During the migration period, the place can be used for the observation of many birds that stop there to rest.
