Botevgrad’s clock tower is the town’s symbol. Constructed between 1862 and 1864, the tower is nearly 30 meters high. The craftsman responsible for the construction was Vouno Markov but the name of the architect is unknown.
Years ago, with the coming of an exact hour, a small tower window opened and a human figure appeared from the aperture. This amazed locals and the tower was seen as one of Botevgrad’s biggest attractions.
A new mechanism was placed to keep the clock running. The original is preserved in Botevgrad’s museum. The tower is one of the 100 national tourist sites.
