Cherni Osum is one of the 22 villages and towns in the Troyan municipality. The village is situated in the Troyan part of Stara Planina Mountain, just below the peaks of Koupen and Levski. It is situated 12 km away from Troyan. A road in good condition connects the town to the village.
The population of Cherni Osum is approximately 1000 people. The village is considered to be one of the most picturesque in this region. It hosts its own ethnographic museum and art gallery.
Various natural and historic landmarks can be seen near the village. Zelenikovets monastery and the preserve of Steneto are both located in the area. Some interesting rock formations can be discovered if you hire an experienced guide. The spring of Cherni Osum River is situated in the foot of Levski peak. The river is suitable both for fishing and for sunbathing.
Several hotels, restaurants and mehanas welcome Cherni Osum’s visitors. Staying in an old house will probably guarantee you authentic local cuisine. If lucky, you might get a taste of some old-time dishes. Mehanas organize folklore shows and demonstrations of old Bulgarian customs and crafts. Make your request for a special show a few days in advance.
