A beautiful rock phenomenon is located on the border between Varna and Bourgas regions. The phenomenon is called Choudnite Skali (the wonder cliffs).
Choudnite Skali never managed to gain the popularity of Belogradchik Rocks or of the Rhodope Choudnite Mostove. Yet, the rock formation is just as unique and beautiful and deserves some special attention.
The landmark is located on the bank of Tsonevo dam, two km away from Asparouhovo and 90 km away from Varna. Choudnite Skali became a nature landmark in 1949.
The phenomenon is a group of about 10 tall, white cliffs. Each one has unique shape, carved by the skillful hand of nature.
Most of the cliffs resemble towers, pyramids and cones rising high above the dam water. Scientists believe that water carved the limestone into these strange, inaccessible white castles.
Three tunnels and a road have been carved through the rocks. The road enables tourists to reach Choudnite Skali and to examine them closely.
If you enjoy rock climbing, have in mind that the location is unsuitable since the rocks crumble away easily. Another set of cliffs is situated nearby and has long been known as a popular climbing destination.
The dam will allow you to both enjoy the landmark and to try your fishing skills.
Various villas and huts function nearby and offer decent accommodation options.
The road from Aitos to Provadia passes near the rock phenomenon. You can also explore the rocks while train-traveling from Varna to Plovdiv.
