Devin is a relatively small town in southern Bulgaria. It hides in the slopes of the Rhodope Mountains. The amphitheatrical positioning of the houses gives Devin specific charm.

The history of the town is ancient. Remains from the Stone Age, as well as from Thracian times have been found. Many legends connect the mythical Orpheus to the region. The small town museum can help you learn a lot about the region and see various interesting artifacts.

Some of Bulgaria’s most famous nature landmarks are located in the region. The Trigrad gorge, as well as the caves Yagodinska and Dyavolskoto Gurlo, are all nearby. Both caves are open for visitors and experienced guides will show the most interesting spots.

A number of eco paths and tourism routes begin and start in the region. Guides offer organized trips, hiking and climbs to some difficultly accessible caves. The rich nature of the Devin region has given people many valuable plants and herbs. One such plant is the mursal tea, known for its healing powers. You can buy it on the road or from a village granny. Some of the village children also sell the valuable plant to tourists.

Apart from the nature, Devin is well known for its mineral springs. The water has healing power and the town has developed spa tourism. Several hotels offer spa treatment in luxurious conditions.

One of Bulgaria’s most interesting dams is located on the road between Devin and Krichim. The dam of Vucha is not suitable for fishing because of the steep slopes. Several hotels built on the shore facilitate this activity. Floating houses are what makes the dam interesting. Most of them are private but some can be rented. The opportunity to spend the night in a house floating on the dam waters is truly exciting.

The town of Smolyan and the resort of Pamporovo are both located in the region. Have in mind that getting there might take some time, since the road is narrow and dangerous.

Shiroka Luka, the villages of Gela and Stoikite are three settlements famous for their traditional architecture. All three are situated in the region.
