Apart from Etura and the House of Humor and Satire, Gabrovo has several other landmarks to show to its visitors. One of the most interesting collections in the town, presenting lifestyle from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century can be seen in Dechkova house.
Dechkova house was constructed in 1835 and is one of the most famous buildings preserved from the revival period to present time. It underwent numerous transformations over time. The building initially housed a school, the Gabrovo municipality and a war hospital.
The house has been renovated today but still demonstrated the revival-period architecture. Visitors get the chance to even explore the authentic mayor’s office from the 20s of the 20th century. You can also see the rooms where ladies met in the afternoon and the chamber that gentlemen used to smoke cigars and to discuss various issues.
In Dechkova house, you will also see clothing from the period and other fine objects.
Gabrovo families donated all of the items displayed in Dechkova house.
The hallway of the house sometimes hosts literature readings and retro shows. You can even have your photo taken, while dressed in some of the clothes that the museum preserves.
Dechkova House is situated at 2 Deseti Iuli square and functions from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
