A revival-period construction in Kotel houses Galatansko school and has been named an architecture monument today.
The building was constructed in 1869 in the typical for Kotel revival architectural style. The school was situated in Galata district that suffered no damage during a major fire in 1894 that destroyed most of the town.
Today, the two-level house has become the home of a unique cloth and carpet collection. Visitors can examine some of the most colorful carpets and blankets ever made. The collection presents the evolution of coloring patterns throughout time. Some of the exhibited works have the impressive age of 150 to 200 years, yet all colors have remained vivid and sharp. Kotel carpets feature typical bright colors and geometrical shapes.
Galatansko school is situated at 17 Izvorska street and welcomes visitors each day from 8.30 am to midday and from 1.30 pm to 6 pm.
