Govedartsi, a small mountain village, is situated in the valley of Cherni Iskar River, in the foot of Rila.
Both summer and winter tourism opportunities abound in the region. The proximity to Maliovitsa peak and the ski resort of Borovets are a plus during the winter. At the same time, the village offers much more diverse and cheaper accommodation opportunities than the big resort.
If you visit Govedartsi during the winter, you can choose among the ski tracks near the village, the ones near Maliovitsa and those of Borovets. The resort is located 25 km away from the village.
During the summer, Govedartsi turns into a cool escape from the summer heat. The peaceful village and beautiful surroundings offer a hiding place from city noise.
Are you into fishing? Try your luck with the trout in the region.
Other leisure time activities include mountain walks. Govedartsi is the start point of many eco paths that take tourists to the nearby beautiful mountain regions. From Govedartsi, hiking enthusiasts can reach various cabins and peaks.
Govedartsi also offers excellent mountain biking conditions during the summer. Ecotourism organization developed nearly 150km of biking paths in the area. Local guides or a good map can help you explore the region and reach the nearby peaks, the Seven Rila Lakes or the Rila monastery.
Even if you have a single day off, prepare for a picnic and head to Govedartsi. The distance from Sofia to Govedartsi enables such single-day vacations and a number of Sofia residents have already turned these visits into a tradition.
