Beach umbrella. A chaise-lounge. You hear music in the background, you can smell the French fries and the fried fish that other tourists are eating near you. All beach visitors are lined under the umbrellas and empty space is almost entirely missing. The typical coastal resort looks this way. 

If you want to experience the Bulgarian coast in a different manner, head to the mouth of Kamchia River.

This wild nature haven is situated only a few km away from the city of Varna. Getting there by car is rather easy.

The beach is wide and surprisingly empty. Beware, since the beach is unprotected and lacks lifeguards. Kamchia lacks hotels, vacation complexes, water parks and noisy crowds. There, you can enjoy the purity of nature.

In case you start missing civilization, visit the small restaurants situated on the road to the beach. You can also enjoy a boat trip.

According to local guides, Kamchia’s nature is unique. Turtles and snakes can be spotted during sunny days.

Several bungalow complexes function in the region and offer accommodation. If you are not a fan of camping, enjoy their service. The bungalows are fully equipped with kitchen appliances, fireplaces, barbecues and comfortable bathrooms.

Kayaking and fishing are two other viable options. Since some of the region is protected, fishing is allowed only in specific places.

Kamchia’s beaches are suitable for the positioning of tents. The water is clean. Since none of the beaches are protected, be cautious when taking a swim.
