Ledenika is located 16 km away from Vratsa, in Stara Planina Mountain.
The cave is 300 m long and has 10 chambers.
Water filled the cave initially but slowly pulled away. Only one lake remains in Ledenika today. It is called the lake of wishes since according to the legend everything that you wish for at the spot comes true.
The cave got its name from the ice decorations that the first chamber gets during spring and winter. The outer chamber has temperature of -7 to -15 degrees Celsius. Interior chambers maintain a temperature of eight degrees Celsius.
Ledenika opened for visitors in 1961. One year later the cave was named a nature landmark and was included in the list of 100 national tourism sites.
If you want to see the ice formations in the cave, go there during the cold months. In the summer, you can combine the visit with eco tourism and walks. Ledenika cabin is the starting point of various routes. The cabin offers accommodation and food.
