The National Museum of Natural Science is considered the one with richest collection on the Balkans. It came into existence more than a century ago, under the guidance of prince Ferdinand who had special liking for natural science.
Since 1889, the collection grew to cover all natural areas inside Bulgaria and on a global scale.
More than 400 exhibition items have been placed inside the museum. The number of insects presented exceeds tens of thousands, the number of bird species is 1200. The collection includes many amphibians and reptiles. A special section preserves fossils. Preserved plants and minerals describe even further Bulgaria’s nature.
The museum works with international institutions and exchanges exhibition items and experience.
To visit the museum, go to Sofia’s 1 Tsar Osvoboditel boulevard. It works each day from 10 am to 6 pm.
