The Pleven regional history museum has been recognized as a monument of culture that is responsible for research, presentations, preservation and popularization of Bulgaria’s cultural and natural heritage.

A number of important landmarks among which Storgozia fortress, the Nikopol medieval fortress and Roman settlement Ulpia Oescus have been presented there.

The museum has one of the richest collections in the country, its collection exceeding 180 000 exhibition items, documents and nature specimens.

Items have been placed in 24 halls. The collections are named respectively Archaeology, Ottoman Rule and Revival, Ethnographic, New and Modern History and Nature.

A numismatic collection includes over 25 000 coins and is truly remarkable.

The specialized museum library protects nearly 10 000 books and magazines. Some of the writings have historical value, since they describe the past of Pleven and the region, as well as the cultures and nations that have influenced and shaped Bulgaria.

Pleven’s regional history museum is situated on 3 Stoian Zaimov street and welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am to midday and from 12.30 pm to 5 pm.
