One of the oldest Sliven districts, Kaftandzhiyska, holds a 19th century symmetrical house, seen as one of the most valuable revival period monuments in the town.
A thick wall separates the yard in two parts, forming two separate houses. These carry the names Diado Boiuva house and Arnaoutkina house.
In 1963, Diado Boiuva house was turned into a museum presenting Sliven customs and lifestyle from the 19th century.
The house was constructed in 1813 and is situated in the furthest part of the yard. Symmetric cobblestone figures cover part of the yard. A wooden staircase leads to the second house floor, where all rooms are situated.
Each room features a beautiful, more than hundred years old carpet. Intricately decorated dishes have been placed on the shelves in each room.
The maiden’s room is connected to the bathroom, which was considered to be a symbol of purity of the revival period house.
Arnaoutkina house features a permanent exhibition. The collection, presenting European influence on Sliven lifestyle was put together in 1970.
The beautiful architecture work, the woodcarvings and fine columns, the richly decorated jhome iconostasis and other details turn the house one of the masterpieces of Bulgarian architecture from the period.
To get a complete feel of the lifestyle, visitors can walk in the yard and the flower garden, can examine agriculture tools and the places where crops were kept.
