Georgi Sava Rakovski’s pantheon and the Kotel revival museum are housed in an interesting building in the central part of town. Both opened doors in 1981, to honor 1300 years since the creation of the Bulgarian state.
The museum holds evidence of the activities of over 200 revolutionaries and intellectuals from the region. Items were divided into four collections, namely leaders of the national revival, intellectuals, rebels and revolutionaries. Some of the famous Bulgarians presented include Petur Beron, Atanas Granitski and Georgi Mamarchev.
Rakovski’s pantheon features a marble sarcophagus, where the revolutionary’s remains rest. A replica of his sword can be seen, as well.
The museum is open for visitors from 9 am to 6 pm during the summer and from 8 am to midday and from 1 pm to 5 pm during the winter.
