The village of Rezovo is the southernmost point on the Bulgarian Black Sea coastline.
Rezovo is located on the border between Bulgaria and Turkey. Nearly 15 km south of Ahtopol, the village is located close to a river carrying the same name.
According to historians, Rezovo is has rich historic background. They found signs of metallurgic activity and a Thracian necropolis, located in the area called Selski Dol, several kilometers away from the village.
The cape of Kastrich, also located several kilometers north of Rezovo, hosts the remains of the small Middle Age fortress of Kastrition.
Rezovo is a name derived from the Thracian word Rezos. According to some historians the word means king. Some even believe that Rezovo is the birthplace of the Thracian king Rezos, mentioned by Homer in his account of the Trojan War.
In 18th century maps, Rezovo is marked as harbor under the name of Buyk Rezve. It was the place from which timber and agriculture products were shipped to the capital of the empire.
The village changed its location several times to escape from pirate assaults. During an uprising, the village was completely burned down.
Today’s Rezovo was constructed in 1903. Some of the crafts, timber and agriculture production and fishery led to progress and growth.
In the early 30s of the 20th century the village had population of nearly 400 people. Today the population has decreased to 30 inhabitants.
During the socialist era, access to the village was restricted because of its location in the border area. Rezovo has enjoyed tourist visits only over the past few years.
One of the must-sees in the region is the beach of Silistar. The beach is located only few kilometers north of the village. The area is protected and has remained free of constructions.
Tourists can reach the beach only through a narrow and muddy road. Yet, the peace and beauty of the place compensate for the difficult walk.
