Sevlievo’s history museum dates back to 1954. Throughout the years, its collection increased to 45 000 unique items. Collections have been placed in four buildings, which also host archives and work premises.
The museum keeps evidence of life in the region from the Stone Age to present time. Collections trace developments chronologically. Archaeology and Revival collections can be seen in Tabahana workshop, while other interesting items have been placed in Dandolovi houses.
Hadzhistoyanovo School also hosts some unique artifacts. It features findings from the Thracian and Roman periods. Many items were found during excavation works at the ancient settlement of Hotalich, predecessor of the current Sevlievo. The collection includes rings, bracelets and necklaces made of crystal.
The school also features a revival period collection. It presents the most developed crafts in the region in the 18th and 19th centuries. Liberation struggles and education activities have been presented, as well. Visitors can examine a copy of Istoria Slavianobuglarskaia (Slav-Bulgarian history), weapons and the seal of the Sevlievo revolutionary committee from 1876.
Dandolovi houses show the typical looks of a revival-period house. Agriculture utensils have been placed in the yard, together with old machinery. A small yard portion has been used to present typical family life during the summer. Visitors can look at the oven used to make bread.
The house rooms have preserved their old looks. Three types of revival-period interior decorations can be seen. Another collection presents typical for the region clothing.
The ground floor features collection named Beauty in the Works of Sevlievo Craftsmen.
Tabahana, or the leather workshop, has also been renovated and turned into interesting part of the history museum. This is the only workshop of the type that is preserved in Bulgaria. All parts of the leather processing procedure can be explored.
Museum workers continue enriching the collections and constantly searching for and adding new items.
