Sinite Kamuni (the Blue Stones)
Sinite Kamuni is a park in the eastern part of Stara Planina Mountain, to the north of the town of Sliven.
The name comes from the massive cliffs colored in blue that can be seen from the town. A specific moss covers the rocks and gives them the unusual color. Depending on the season and the weather, the moss changes its color from blue to grey and green.
Bulgarka peak is the highest point of the park with its 1181 m. It is the highest peak of eastern Stara Planina. Many tourists like to conquer the height, since the peak is easily accessible.
Numerous bird species inhabit the region. Their number exceeds 145 and some of the species can be seen only there.
Karandila
Karandila is a region near Sliven, part of Sinite Kamuni park. The area is known for its numerous sports facilities, hotels and artificial lake, turning it into a local resort.
To reach Karandila, you can make use of several options. One includes half an hour lift ride. The starting point is a kilometer away from Sliven.
The so called Haidoushka Puteka also leads to Karandila. The path is ramp and will let you enjoy the beautiful natural landmarks along the way. An asphalt road leads to the region, as well.
A TV tower has been set up at the highest point. A hang gliding ramp is situated nearby and offers opportunities for the practice of the extreme sport.
Karandila is a name that probably comes from the period when Sliven suffered from a plague. Many Sliven residents moved to the area to escape from the disease. The region was used during ‘dark’ times for locals, which probably gave it the name kara (black).
Sliven residents often visit Karandila during weekends. The place is suitable for longer stay if you manage to book a hotel in advance.
