Locals call this nature landmark Slona (the elephant) The rock phenomenon is situated four km away from the spa resort of Devin.
The rocks resemble the shape of an elephant and can be seen on the road from Devin to the village of Nastan, several hundred meters away from the diversion to Smolyan.
A factory has unfortunately piled waste right in front of the phenomenon, on the bank of Shirokolushka River. You will need to use your imagination to recognize the silhouette. It is possible to miss the rock, if you are unfamiliar, so it would be best to come with a guide.
Scientists believe that the opening that represents the elephant’s mouth was once a cave entrance and a spring flowed out of it. The water probably shaped the rocks. This region is well known for its caves and various nature landmarks.
