The biggest preserve on the territory of Central Balkan National Park is called Steneto. The park includes the upstream of Cherni Osum River.
Steneto features many animal and plant species. The preserve also has some interesting rock phenomena and caves.
More than 1000 plant species can be observed on the territory of Steneto. Nearly 80 percent of its territory is covered by beech trees. Many of the trees are over 200 years old.
The biggest number of bird species in Stara Planina Mountain can be seen in Steneto. A number of rare species among which eagles and woodpeckers inhabit the preserve. Over 100 endangered animal species have also found a home in Steneto.
