History Museum
Dimitrovgrad’s history museum was created in 1951, soon after the town was set up. It initially functioned as a museum of the youth socialist movement. A collection was added to describe the history of the town and the region.
Today, the museum has over 48 000 artifacts, many of which connected to the ethnography of the region.
The museum welcomes visitors each day from 9 am to midday and from 1.30 to 5 pm. To visit the museum on Saturday and Sunday, you need to call and make an appointment in advance. Museum entry is free of charge.
Penio Penev Memorial House
Three villages combined in 1947 to form the town of Dimitrovgrad. Many people from various parts of the country fell in love with the region and decided to settle there. Poet Penio Penev was one of them.
Penev was born in Sevlievo. He participated in Dimitrovgrad construction from 1947 onward. After the end of his military service, Penev settled there.
Some of his best works were created in Dimitrovgrad. Penev died there in 1956.
The building where Penev lived was turned into a memorial house. More than 650 objects depict the life and work of the poet. The museum has audio-visual equipment and visitors can hear poems and watch films about Penev’s life.
The museum is situated on 9 Dimitur Blagoev street. It welcomes visitors from Monday to Friday from 9 am to midday and from 2 pm to 5 pm. Entry is free of charge.
