Baba Vida fortress is situated in Vidin and happens to be the only completely restored medieval fortification in the country. The fortress is situated in the outskirts of the town, surrounded by a deep trench.
The fortress appeared more than 2000 years ago and gained various functions through the centuries. It acted as a protective facility and as a rulers' residence.
