Once upon a time, three giant brothers protected weak people. They fought Ottomans and were so powerful that rocks trembled beneath their feet.
The brothers fought each day and went back home to rest at night. To hide, they turned into rocks. Until present day, the three giant rocks stand near the town of Aitos and protect its residents.
This is one of the legends that Bulgarians created long ago to explain the appearance of the rock phenomenon Trite Bratia (the three brothers). The rocks are situated at an altitude of 200 m and have turned into a symbol of Aitos.
To reach them, you need to go north of the city and to enter Slaveeva Reka park.
Since 1972, the formations have the status of nature landmark. Together with nearby areas, the phenomenon has been included in the potentially protected Bulgarian areas.
As people say, each legend holds pieces of truth. Probably this is the reason for the love that Aitos residents have for the three brothers. A monument was set up at the town’s entrance to remind visitors that the three giants still protect Aitos.
