The only museum of Bulgarian traditional crafts is situated in Troyan. The collection has been placed in a building constructed in 1881. Initially, the building acted as a school and was later on used by the municipality.
Unique artifacts were presented there for the first time in 1968. Several collections, based on craft can be explored there. The items exceed 131 000. The oldest ones date back to the 10th and 11th centuries BC. Ten halls house the collections.
A model of the Troyan crafts street is one of the most curious exhibits.
Another replica presents a typical house, clothing and interior decorations of a revival-period premise.
The first museum floor traces historic development of pottery in the region, dating back to the Neolithic period. During the Bulgarian revival, Troyan turned into a Bulgarian pottery center and introduced some unusual techniques and decorations.
The hall presenting woodcarving and wood processing houses equipment from the 19th century. Some excellent works and furniture pieces can be seen.
Beautiful iconostases and replicas of icons have also been collected.
Metal processing has a separate hall. There, visitors can explore pieces made of copper and gold, as well as knifes and weapons.
Clothing and carpets, female traditional clothing, belts and bags are another part of the collection.
Contemporary masterpieces of Troyan craftsmen can be explored in the final hall.
The museum is situated at 1 Vuzrazhdane square. It welcomes visitors each day from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm.
