Troyanski Balkan is a region that encompasses the central part of Stara Planina Mountain.
National Park Central Balkan is the home of big number of rare bird, animal and plant species. Various eco paths lead to nature landmarks and hidden places in the region.
Troyan is a town proud with its history. The village of Oreshak is situated nearby. There, craftsmen show year-round their skills. Troyan Monastery is also nearby.
The town is situated in the Valley of Beli Osym River. Buses from Sofia, as well as the train, reach Troyan. Though the region is mountainous, it is relatively easily accessible, which differentiates it from other mountain areas in the country.
Hunters prefer the region because of the wide range of animal species that inhabit the forests. Some of the animals that can be seen there include deer, wild goats, wolves, bears and eagles.
From Troyan, you can easily reach the town of Lovech and the dam of Sopot.
Troyan monastery Ouspenie Bogorodichno is located 10 km away from Troyan. The monastery has turned into a popular tourism destination and its peacefulness has somehow disappeared.
Don’t miss the little mehanas close to the monastery. They offer a number of traditional dishes, among which katuk (a dairy product). It has nothing to do with the katuk offered for sale in supermarkets.
The resort of Beklemeto is 22 km away from Troyan. It acts as the starting point of various hiking routes.
Lovers of nature can visit the preserve Kozya Stena. Nearly 40 rare species have found protection there. One of the rare plants that can be seen is edelweiss.
Shipkovo is another village found in the region. It has long been known as a spa resort and the mineral water springing there has been acknowledged for its healing power.
