Vihren peak is the highest one of Pirin Mountain and the second highest in Bulgaria after Mousala. It reaches the impressive 2914 m. Vihren is the third highest peak of the Balkan peninsula.
The peak is located just above Bansko and is one of the most visited tourism destinations in the Pirin region.
A cabin by the same name is located in the slopes below the peak. Vihren cabin offers good accommodation opportunities. The region has several other cabins among which Yavorov, Demyanitsa and Bunderitsa. All of these are accessible within few hours of walk.
One of the most interesting features of the peak is that it looks different, depending on the point of observation. Climbers enjoy various routes that can take them to the highest point. The level of difficulty differs.
Vihren is a compilation of marble cliffs. The region lack rivers and lakes. Few plants inhabit the region. One of them is the rare edelweiss. A number of birds and animal species can be seen there.
The region of Vihren features several tourism routes. Some of the attractions in the region include Koncheto, Todorin peak, Ribno and Bunderishko lakes and Okoto lake.
