Over the past two weeks, archaeologists discovered impressive remains under Tsarevets hill in the town of Veliko Turnovo, money.bg reported. Experts Hitko Vachev and Nikolai Ovcharov believe that the remains are those of St. Ivan Rilski church, a sanctuary that existed until the end of the 17th century.
Archaeologists believe the church had two levels. The discovered remains will lead to some controversies since they differ from facts previously known about the church.
Some of the artifacts discovered include 120 coins, six of which date back to the rule of tsar Ivan Shishman. Part of a quartz icon and ceramics were also uncovered.
