A new sports center that will be used for the preparation of athletes will be constructed in the resort of Bansko, making use of municipal terrains. Bansko mayor Alexander Kravarov approved the project as part of a strategy for turning Bansko into a year-round resort, topsport.ibox.bg reported.
Kravarov said that international sports teams already showed interest in the construction of such a center. Their representatives, however, failed approving a suitable terrain.
The municipality plans the construction of a new sports hall having capacity of 3000 people. Bansko's old stadium will undergo renovation and the town will get new park with sports facilities.
During August, Bansko will host a summer biathlon European championship. Alpine skiing championships are also to take place. If this happens, Bansko will rank among the 30 international resorts that stage world skiing championships. This development will attract even more tourists.
