New excavation works in Bulgaria’s Perperikon
Archaeologists started new exploration of Perperikon complex, Darik Radio reported. Research will provide employment for 120 people and the overall budget for the project is 200 000 leva.

Research head Nikolai Ovcharov said that exploration is ongoing for a fourth consecutive year. In the past three years, archaeologists discovered a medieval citadel and a complex made of more than 20 Roman buildings.

This summer, archaeological works will affect the southern slope. Ovhcarov said that exploration will be difficult because of the steepness of the slope.

Apart from research, archaeologists will get involved in the preservation of the already discovered constructions. Ovcharov said that UNESCO is expected to provide $15 000 for the maintenance and renovation of the medieval citadel.
