As during previous years, this summer many Bulgarians are expected to spend their vacation abroad. Bulgarians are looking for new experiences and prefer to travel abroad, Dnevnik daily reported.
Because of this tendency, Bulgarian hotel owners and tourism agencies decided to launch a campaign targeting locals. Summer season 2008 will be carried out under the slogan 2008 - the year of the Bulgarian tourist. Yet, the campaign was never fully developed.
Hotels in the country benefit mainly from foreign visits. Foreign tourism agencies manage to negotiate rather low prices for the stay of their clients. Bulgarians willing to spend their vacation there are forced to pay a lot. Since Bulgarians rarely plan their vacation in advance, the price goes up further.
Bulgarians prefer the travel to Greece and Turkey, where prices are similar but service is better. Tourism agencies said that interest towards Greece, Turkey, Spain and Tunisia is constantly growing.
