Madara Horseman chosen as Bulgaria's symbol
The Madara Horseman was selected as global symbol of Bulgaria, Darik Radio reported. Results of the national campaign for the selection of the symbol were presented during a ceremony in the National History Museum on June 29. The campaign started in the end of 2007 and more than one million people cast a vote.

The Cyrillic alphabet, Tsarevets hill and the Rila Monastery ranked right after the Madara horseman.

President Georgi Purvanov attended the ceremony and said that the campaign aided Bulgarians find confidence and pride in their nationality.

According to the campaign's main idea, the selected symbol will appear on the Bulgarian euro coins. Despite the choice of Bulgarians, the national bank will have the final say.
