In the past few days, the sea water near the town of Bourgas has been rather cold, Darik Radio reported. Cold currents coming from the northern coast are responsible for the situation, head of the local life guard unit Nikolai Ivanov said.
Temperature in the northern part of the beach reaches only 17 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The difference between air and water temperature is 10 degrees and can cause health problems. Tourists are advised to refrain from sudden submission or from jumping in the water. Reaching bigger water depth is even more dangerous since the water gets progressively colder.
The life guard unit asked parents to keep children away from the water until it becomes warmer.
