Unscrupulous tourists created the negative image that Bulgaria has as a tourism attraction, said Anelia Kroushkova, head of the State Agency for Tourism (SAT).
Kroushkova said that she has discussed problems with tourists during her meetings with ambassadors. Her comments came after a group of British tourists complained of food poisoning and poor service in Bulgarian hotels.
Many tourists who complain do so in order to gain some benefits, Kroushkova said. Most of the accusations are hard to prove.
Accusations are often proven false, once tourists go to the police to file a complaint, Kroushkova said. In most cases, it aims to bring back the amount that foreign tourists have spent on the vacation in Bulgaria.
Most hotels already have video monitoring systems to deal with such situations, since the number of false accusations and complaints is growing.
