Riverside tourism exists in Bulgaria 25 years already, ruse24.bg reported. This type of tourism started with the activities of ships named Rousse and Sofia.
Dounav Tours (Danube Tours) company currently makes use of five ships named Rousse, Sofia, Rousse Prestizh, Elegant Lady and Heinrich Heine. These ships compete for tourists with 200 other vessels that offer Danube River services.
In 2007, Dounav Tours serviced almost 19 000 tourists and organized 156 trips. Most tourists came from Canada, Germany, France, Russia, Japan, the UK, Austria and the Netherlands.
Australian tourists also show interest in Danube tours. The first Australian group already traveled from Passau to Budapest and back.
