Russian tourists, willing to visit Bulgaria, might have serious problems with the issuing of visas, Dnevnik daily reported. Russian media reported that queues in front of the Bulgarian embassy and consulate are massive.
The problem stems from the fact that many Russians own property in Bulgaria and want to travel to the country. The number of Russian tourists that want to visit Bulgaria has also increased. The consulate is unable to process all the documents, Bulgarian tourism agencies said.
Bulgarian tourism sector representatives said that they warned about this development months ago and organized a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister Milen Keremedchiev.
Keremedchiev confirmed the problem but said that additional staff has been sent to Russia. Since July 1, all Russians who own property in Bulgaria will receive multiple visas valid for three years, Keremedchiev said. He asked tourism agencies to make use of the option to submit visa documents online.
