Preliminary data for 2007 shows that nearly 128 000 tourists visited Bulgarian spa resorts.
Velingrad, Hissarya and Sandanski are the most preferred places for a spa vacation, head of the national spa association Stanimir Stankov said.
Data of the State Agency for Tourism (SAT) shows that 13 percent of all Bulgarian and 18 percent of the foreign visitors practice spa tourism in the country.
Bulgaria has 58 spa resorts and ranks second in Europe after Iceland on the availability of mineral water springs.
SAT is working on a strategy to attract more foreign visitors and to popularize spa tourism options in the country. Its target group includes Russian, Scandinavian and British tourists.
