Finance Ministry provided 0.5 million leva for the renovation of Vrachanski monastery St. Ivan Pousti, national private channel bTV reported. The rock monastery is situated six km away from the town of Vratsa but is hardly accessible.
Until recently, there was no road leading to the sanctuary.
According to legends, the monastery was set up near the remains of a Thracian sanctuary. Treasure hunters dug in the area, aggravating the negative influence of nature over the rock monastery.
Renovation works include the construction of a road from the monastery to the nearby village of Bistrets. Two buildings will be set up. One will accommodate tourists and the second one will be used by monks.
