This summer, just like the previous, the problem with pollution in Varna's southern beach region will persist. A purifying station that will deal with the issue is not to be constructed, investor.bg reported.
The project for the construction of the facility has already been finalized but Varna municipality is expecting state permission since the terrain needed for the station is state property.
Since a decade the southern beach has been suffering pollution. The sea there suffers the dumping of Varna's sewerage waste. The problem intensified recently because of the intense construction in the city. Tourists complain of the dirty water, which affects the city's image, Varna mayor Kiril Yordanov said.
Until the past year, the beach lacked warning signs, describing the danger of infections. Analysis shows that foreigners are most vulnerable, since Bulgarians have immunity and the waters do not pose any danger to them.
According to plans, the station has to be constructed in the yard of Varna's marine school. Regional Development Ministry representatives said that the permission has been issued but needs to get Council of Ministers approval. Once the permit is given, construction works will last two months, experts said.
