								Kiustendil is located in the fertile lands of western Bulgaria. The town&amp;rsquo;s history dates back to the 5th century BC, making it one of the oldest settlements in Bulgaria. Thracians settled there, attracted by the numerous mineral water springs.

Over the centuries, the town developed as a commerce and balneological center. It had many names among which Pautalia, Velbudzh and Kiustendil.

Today Kiustendil is known as the town of artists, as well as the fruit orchard of Bulgaria. Some of the finest cherries in the country are produced there.

Kiustendil is an attractive spa tourism destination. The waters of more than 40 springs have become famous for their healing powers. The region has several nice hotels that offer treatment in cozy surroundings.
