Belogradchik’s Rocks and Fortress
Many legends have been told about the rocks. Some of the most impressive formations are situated south of Belogradchik.
Among the rocks near the town, visitors can see one of the oldest fortresses in Bulgaria. Belogradchik fortress uses the steep rocks as protective walls from two sides. It was constructed long before the Bulgarian state was set up. The fortress functioned until the 19th century.
Visitors can see the fortress each day from 9 am to 6 pm.
Belogradchik’s history museum has been set up in Panova house, a building from 1810. The construction has typical revival period architecture. It was renovated in 1970, when the museum was founded.
More than 6000 objects were put on display. The main collection focuses on the Ottoman and revival periods. The halls treasure artifacts connected to lifestyle and the crafts typical for Belogradchik.
